Forget Wiarton Willy. Here’s a beacon of warmer days to come tailored to the craft beer lover. As of March 1, you can pick up Spring Maple Belgian Blonde Ale at the LCBO.

Made in partnership with the Ontario Maple Syrup Producers’ Association, we’re pretty sure you’ve never had a Belgian ale like it.

Brewed with Belgian yeast (natch), sweet malt, noble hops and Ontario maple syrup, Spring Maple Belgian Blonde Ale clocks in at a hearty 7% alc./vol. and IBUs at a mere 13. “Not all beers have to be hoppy,” says head brewer Dan Unkerskov.

Check out our Spring Maple Belgian Blonde Ale webpage here. Click here to download a printable PDF information page about the beer.

You can find Spring Maple at participating LCBOs (LCBO product number 333476). Note that it will take a few days for the beer to arrive and hit the shelves. Spring Maple is also available on tap at select pubs and restaurants across Ontario.

Go to www.beerfinder.ca on your smartphone to find the one nearest you.

And remember, once it’s gone, it’s gone! Until next year.

“Since partnering with the NHL Alumni last summer we have had the privilege of meeting dozens of former players and even playing hockey with some of them,” said Lake of Bays Brewing president Darren Smith. “These are terrific guys and more than anything they love a chance to meet new people and to get out and play. Lace Up with the NHL Alumni is a great way to facilitate that while increasing awareness of our NHLAA brands, including Top Shelf Classic Lager.”

One of Ontario’s fastest-growing craft breweries, Lake of Bays Brewing Company has four year-round beers and four seasonal beers (a new release every three months.) Lake of Bays is the official brewery of the NHL Alumni Association.

TORONTO AND BAYSVILLE (January 16, 2014) — Lake of Bays Brewing Company and the NHL Alumni Association proudly announce that Curtis Joseph is the next hockey legend to be honoured in their Signature Series lineup of limited-release beers. The Cujo brew is scheduled to be released in early March. Renowned throughout the 1990s for his lightning reflexes and his post-season prowess with St. Louis, Edmonton, and Toronto, the man in the rabid dog mask notched an astounding 448 wins during his 21-year professional career in net (1989-2010). An exemplary leader and fearsome opponent, CuJo represented Canada at the World Championships and World Cup of Hockey in 1996, and in Salt Lake City in 2002 helped bring home the gold. INTRODUCING: CUJO IMPERIAL GOLDEN ALE

CUJO-Imperial Golden Ale, bottle design as of January 21, 2014Two-row pale malt and American cascade hops give this Imperial Golden Ale an aromatic hint of citrus, toasted grains and caramel. Magnum hops balance it off with a gentle bittering — IBUs clock in at 34 — curbing the sweetness and quenching the palate. 8% alc./vol.

AVAILABILITY Signature Series beers are sold online as part of the Signature Series Club, a four-release line-up of limited-edition brews and collectables available throughout Ontario. Go to SignatureSeriesClub.com to learn more and to reserve yours. The individual Signature Series brews are also sold as stand-alone purchases available for a limited time at some LCBOs. Go to BeerFinder.ca on your smartphone to find the ones nearest you. (They sell out quickly so a call to the store before heading out is recommended.) BACKGROUNDER In June of 2013, the NHL Alumni Association inked a partnership with Lake of Bays Brewing Company to produce a family of hockey-themed beers. Royalties from all NHLAA beer sales go toward the work of the Alumni. Their first beer, Top Shelf Classic Lager, available in tall cans year-round, was released in October. China Wall, their second release, and the first of the Signature Series, was released in December.

Signature Series Club - only $50 - introductory offerTORONTO AND BAYSVILLE (December 6, 2013)

Ontario craft beer and hockey memorabilia collectors have something new and innovative to celebrate with the launch of the Signature Series Club, a brand new lineup of tribute beers and collectibles, available exclusively online for an introductory special of $50.

Collectors who join the Signature Series Club will receive four Signature Series limited-edition beers — one new release approximately every three months, in exclusive hand-numbered bottles with matching numbered printer’s proofs, as well as a VIP tour of the brewery, located in Baysville, Ontario near Algonquin Park.

Each release is a new premium quality artisan-brewed beer paying tribute to a different hockey legend. “These are very special beers, paying tribute to some of the greatest hockey players of all time,” said NHL Alumni Association executive director Mark Napier. “It’s wonderful to see them being immortalized in this way.”

Picture of Johnny Bower as a young man.[UPDATE DECEMBER 13, 2013: CHINA WALL IS SOLD OUT. ALL SIGNATURE SERIES ORDERS GOING FORWARD BEGIN WITH THE NEXT RELEASE, TO BE FINALIZED SHORTLY.] Up first is China Wall, featuring Johnny Bower, one of the greatest goaltenders of all time. Bower earned the nickname China Wall due to his fearlessness in goal and because of his “ancient” age.

During 12 seasons with Toronto, Johnny Bower’s fearlessness in goal earned him 200 stitches, a toothless grin and the nickname China Wall. With his patented poke-check, top goalie trophies and four cups, this hall of famer is considered one of the greatest goaltenders of all time. During the twilight of his career Bower donned a mask, for a total of 17 games.

A limited number of each Signature Series release will be available at select LCBOs, but the bottles will not be hand-numbered and they will not be guaranteed to be in stock.

“We are producing each of these Signature Series releases in very limited quantities,” said Lake of Bays Brewing Co. president and CEO Darren Smith. “We anticipate they will sell out quickly, and we know there are real collectors out there who will absolutely want all of them. So we decided to do something a little different to make sure that anyone who really wants them all can get them all. You are guaranteed to receive all four releases if you join the Signature Series Club.”
