October 8 also happened to be Walter Gretzky’s 75th birthday, and we were thrilled that he stopped by before and after the game (Leafs vs Colorado — [2-1 Colorado]) to say hello.

Introducing Top Shelf Classic Lager

October 4, 2013 — We’re proud to announce the launch of Top Shelf Classic Lager, the official beer of the NHL Alumni Association, arriving at LCBOs and select Ontario pubs and restaurants in early October.

Top Shelf Classic Lager is the first collaborative brew created by Lake of Bays Brewing Company in partnership with the NHL Alumni Association after the two inked a three-year deal in June to produce a family of hockey-themed beers. (View press release)

An American-style lager with 4.5% alc./vol., Top Shelf is craft brewed in small batches in Baysville Ontario, using top quality noble hops and Canadian malt. (Download a printable PDF of Top Shelf Information Page)

The duo plan to distribute to other Canadian provinces and to parts of the United States later this year. Top Shelf enjoyed a warm reception at its initial launch into the US market at the National Beer Wholesalers Association in Las Vegas this week. BAYSVILLE, ON — August 19, 2013 — Lake of Bays Brewing Company and the NHL Alumni Association are proud to reveal the name and look of their first official collaboratively-produced beer: Top Shelf Classic Lager.

“Top Shelf is when you score high in the net, and of course it’s the kind of superlative we’re looking for in all the beers we make,” said Lake of Bays Brewing Co. president and founder Darren Smith.

Top Shelf is an American-style lager brewed with noble hops and Canadian malt. It’s an easy-drinking 4.5% alc./vol., handcrafted to please craft beer drinkers as well as the mainstream beer market. Click here to download a print-quality PDF information page about Top Shelf Classic Lager.

Tall cans of Top Shelf Classic Lager are set to arrive in LCBOs and on tap at select Ontario pubs and restaurants in the fall. The beer will be available all year around.

Distribution to other Canadian provinces and the northeastern United States is scheduled to follow in late fall or early 2014.

Lake of Bays Brewing Company and the NHL Alumni Association signed a deal to team up to produce a family of hockey-themed beers in June. Top Shelf is their first release. The duo’s first limited-release Signature Series specialty brew is in development, with more to follow.

A portion of the proceeds from NHLAA beer sales will go to support the activities of the NHL Alumni Association.

It's baaack! 10 Point IPA now available at the LCBO and on tap in Ontario

BAYSVILLE, ON – August 15, 2013 – Great news for IPA and craft beer fans across Ontario. Lake of Bays Brewing Co. is proud to announce the return of its 10 Point India Pale Ale, now available at LCBOs and on tap at pubs and restaurants across the province. Find the location nearest you on your smartphone at BeerFinder.ca.

Dry hopped for enhanced flavour, 10 Point IPA clocks in at 6% alc./vol. With IBUs (International Bittering Units) coming in at a relatively modest 55, this IPA is particularly sessionable (meaning that even those who are not hop heads can drink more than a glass of it). “This is the second year that we’ve brought out the 10 Point,” said Lake of Bays Brewing Co. founder and president Darren Smith. “It was really well received last year.”

Support for Friends of Algonquin Park

Alongside the release of the 10 Point IPA, Lake of Bays Brewing has partnered with The Friends of Algonquin Park to support their work in Algonquin Park, located 30km northeast of Baysville. For every 750mL bottle of 10Point IPA purchased at the LCBO, Lake of Bays Brewing Co. donates $.25 to the charity, which acts as ambassador and steward for Algonquin Park.

“We want to give back to the community, and we really admire what The Friends of Algonquin Park do,” said Smith.

NHL Alumni, Lake of Bays Brewing Company partner to launch lineup of quality craft beers

TORONTO and BAYSVILLE (June 18, 2013) – The NHL Alumni Association and Lake of Bays Brewing Company are proud to announce plans to drop the puck on a new family of collaboratively-produced beers, with the initial launch set for fall 2013.

“We are extremely honoured that the NHL Alumni have chosen Lake of Bays Brewing Company to be their official beer and for us to be part of ‘Hockey’s Greatest Family’,” said Darren Smith, president and founder of Lake of Bays Brewing Company. “The NHL Alumni is a wonderful organization and we are thrilled that proceeds from the sales of these new products will go to the NHL Alumni in support of its alumni and charitable causes.”

Smith confirmed that the first beer to hit stores will be a lager, traditionally brewed in small batches using only natural ingredients. Similarly crafted special release and collector brews are expected to soon follow the initial launch, targeted for October 2013.

“Lake of Bays Brewing Co. approached us with the idea of creating a product associated with our organization and the history of the game,” said Mark Napier, executive director of the NHL Alumni Association. “They brew great quality beer, have an excellent marketing strategy and equally important, they are team players that understand the importance of our association and our many causes.”
