Tuesday, February 6th (Baysville, ON): Provided the right set of wheels, cycling is a wonderful year-long activity in Lake of Bays! This recent trend in cycling tech allows you to glide across snowy surfaces. You’ll be soaring!
That cold air can bite, but we suggest you leave that up to our West Wind Black IPA. Built like a stout had a baby with an IPA (90 IBUs!), it’s a great filler after your ride.
Fat biking requires a special frame to accommodate the wide wheels that allow you to remain stable on top of snow. Like snowshoes, the greater surface area offers better stability. Don’t believe me? You can easily rent a bike from Algonquin Outfitter’s Huntsville location. Hit the nearby trails of Arrowhead Park or venture to Algonquin Park’s Old Railway Trail (an official winter fat bike site!). This is an exhilarating weekend activity under sixty bucks.
@NateMuskoka‘s Picks at Algonquin Outfitters
- Kenda Juggernaut Sport Tires
- Gloves: Specialized Element 3.0
- Helmet: Bell Tempo MIPS
- Bike: Salsa Mukluk (popular beginners rental)
We know that road bicycle wheels don’t work for most trails, right? Fat biking is not just for winter cycling, but conquering those roots, chutes and stones as well! Newcomers to trail riding will enjoy how the fat bike tires allow you to comb over the rough stuff with ease.
Newbies and experienced riders should check out the first Muskoka Winter Bike Festival at Deerhurst Resort! This event features an 11km course with demos, live music, and bowls of hot chili. Races start at 1PM, this Saturday (10/02/2018)!
The West Wind Black IPA is a limited edition one-off brew from Lake of Bays Brewery. Tom Thomson was the inspiration behind the beer, as 2017 marked the 100th anniversary of his mysterious death on Canoe Lake. Brewed in partnership with the Art Gallery of Ontario, a portion of the proceeds are donated in support of the arts.
The West Wind is big in hop and dark cocoa flavour with a touch of raisin. It’s a great sippin’ brew after a long day of winter-cising.
Limited Edition! First released in mid-November, this beer is almost gone with the West Wind.
