July 24, 2010: A Busy Weekend in Baysville!

The brewery was alive and buzzing with activity as Baysville celebrated it's annual Walkabout festival. People came from far and wide to enjoy a taste of Lake of Bays Pale Ale at the Bearfoot Gourmet Beer Garden, where they were treated to first class entertainment courtesy of Tobin Spring and Jamie Bestwick.

All the excitement was enough to peak the interest of local MP and Federal Minister of Industry (beers an industry isn't it???) Tony Clement as well as Lake of Bays Mayor Janet Peake. Both enjoyed a guided tour of the brewery, complete with tasting. We even put Mr. Clement to work behind our bar serving up samples.

Sunday brought a visit by the Toronto Triumph Club. These beautiful automobiles garnered quite the attention.

May 20, 2010: The Grand Opening Event

We finally swung open the doors of the new Lake of Bays Brewing Company. On the evening of May 20th we had quite the crowd huddled outside the front doors waiting anxiously for the grand opening. Councillors Margaret Casey and Phil Cote did the honors of cutting the ceremonial ribbon, with some giant shears of course. We topped off the evening with an open house tour and some sampling. It was definitely a full house and we really appreciate all the support we received from the community. Thanks everyone for making it out that evening!

March 31, 2010: Brewery Finds Use for Big Round Grain Thingamabob

Our first bulk malt delivery arrived today. A big blue truck pulled up and used a pneumatic blower to push almost 15 metric tons of malted barley into our grain silo. Needless to say, we hooted like maniacs and danced around excitedly as malt dust rained down on our heads. NOW we're ready to do some serious brewing.

March 30, 2010: Staffed!

We're pleased to announce that we've filled all the positions for our initial "pre-opening" hiring draw. The newest members of the Lake of Bays Brewing Company team are:

Don Sykes, Brewer
Richelle McLeod, Retail Sales Manager
Chris Charron, Packaging & Production Manager
Jim MacIver, General Labour/Wearer of Many Hats

We'd like to thank all applicants for their interest in working at the brewery. We received more than 120 applications for 4 positions, and unfortunately it simply hasn't been possible to respond to everyone who applied. If you haven't received a response by now, unfortunately we weren't able to offer you a position this time. We will very likely be hiring more staff over the summer, so your resumes will be kept for consideration during our next hiring draw.

Thanks once again to everyone who applied, and congratulations to Lake of Bays Brewing's new (and first-ever) staff team!

March 25, 2010: We're Brewing!

What a crazy week! We brewed our first batch of beer yesterday, and everything went very smoothly (or as smoothly as can be expected with the first batch on a brand-new system!). Andrew Dowling of DME and brewing consultant Michel Gauthier were on site to assist with equipment start-up and brewing procedures. The sweet aroma of beer is in the air!
