Dear valued Lake of Bays Customer,
As of this morning, the Alberta Government has implemented a flat rate markup per litre on all beer imported into its province. The amount is $1.25/litre or approximately $0.60/can regardless of the size of the brewery. This is about an 1100% increase from the previous markup rate of $0.10/litre for a brewery of our size. We had no advance warning of this increase, the effect of which will be a sudden spike in the price of our beer. We apologize for any issues this may cause, and we are happy to assist you with working out new retail price points based on the new wholesale pricing. We’d like to stress that this price increase does not represent a “cash grab” on our part, but rather a drastic and unexpected increase in taxation. We are a small, but growing brewery in Ontario and are excited to be offering our beer in other provinces such as Alberta. We hope you will continue to support us, as we love producing tasty beer.
