Friday, September 22nd, 2017 (Baysville, ON): Lake of Bays Brewing Company has partnered with the Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO) on a Tom Thomson-inspired beer, The West Wind Black IPA. as a tribute to the 100th anniversary of his mysterious death on Canoe Lake in July 1917. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of The West Wind Black IPA helps support the AGO.
Tom Thomson was a part of the famous Canadian artist collective, The Group of Seven. Members of this group are recognized as voyageurs and artists of the wild for the exploratory nature of their work. The artists braved the Algonquin wilds with canvas and paint in hand.
The can artwork is based on The West Wind (1916-17), one of Tom Thomson’s most recognized paintings that captures the iconic vision of the Jack Pine, blowing in the wind. Researchers suspect this was painted on Cedar Lake or possibly Grand Lake in Algonquin Park.
Find The West Wind Black IPA first at the AGO Bistro (317 Dundas Street West, Toronto) this weekend! Head on over for a taste of art & culture with a beer inspired by Tom Thomson. The beer will also be featured at the AGO’s weekly Cinq à Sept for the week of Oct 14th. Of course, you can also find it this weekend at the brewery’s Pumpkin Party!
Around Lake of Bays, there will be a special tribute tasting at Algonquin Theatre (37 Main St E, Huntsville) at the Tom Thomson Paddle Art Auction on Sept 29th, 6pm-9pm. All proceeds from the auction go to support art in our communities through Oxtongue Lake for Arts and Culture.
