ONTARIO CRAFT BEER GROWS STRONGER!
Lake of Bays Brewing Company to merge with MERIT Brewing.

[October 15, 2024] – Lake of Bays Brewing Co., a provincial leader in craft beer, announced today that they are merging with MERIT Brewing in an effort to strengthen both companies’ craft beer offerings in Ontario.

“Lake of Bays Brewing has been a key player in craft beer for over 14 years, and we are excited to be formally linking arms with another brewery for the first time! We’ve been able to build a track record and infrastructure that sets us up for continued success with other allied breweries and brands. We are eager to continue building the MERIT brand both in Hamilton and the broader marketplace” says Lake of Bays Brewing's President and CEO Darren Smith. Established in 2017, MERIT has created a loyal following in Hamilton due to high quality beer and an incredible atmosphere on James St. in the heart of Downtown Hamilton.

Co-Founder and CEO Tej Sandhu, Brewmaster Aaron Spinney and Consulting Chef Jesse Vallins will remain a key part of the business moving forward as Lake of Bays Brewing fully intends on preserving and respecting the brand and its Hamilton roots, while simultaneously growing it to a larger audience. MERIT’s flagship Young Rival IPA is rolling out to LCBO and retail locations across Ontario right now, with more of MERIT’s unique beer styles to follow in the coming months. MERIT will continue to serve its full beer lineup, experimental small-batch brews and signature house-made sausage at the brewery on James St. in Hamilton; some exciting additions to the food menu are coming soon.

Over the past 7 years, MERIT has become part of the fabric of the City of Hamilton, through the focus on our Brewery & Taproom on James St. North” says Tej. “As our brewery has evolved, we’ve stepped out of our own space and begun introducing our brands across the province. Through this merger, MERIT will be able to continue to grow with the support from the Lake of Bays team that is like-minded in its integrity, values, and vision for craft beer in Ontario.”

Cheers to the future of well crafted, local Ontario beer!
